Wellllllllll
The semester is finally over, and I just set up my studio in a new place. Its taking a bit to get used to, but i hope to get seriously crackin on some new work this coming week. stay tuned!
In order to raise the funds for my move to Kansas this spring, I am trying to make and sell as many bits o jewelry as humanly possible. I was trying to make a pinwheely thing, but it ended up being a poppy flower. Not my typical style, but it was nice to do something un-Mo. The other earrings i made were from a scrapped shibuichi foldformed experiment. Ive been calling them barnacle fins. I like it.

good job mo!
I have been working on a commission for a friend, and though its not really my ‘style,’ I am really quite pleased with how it is turning out.
I have a pretty dang full couple of weeks ahead of me, commissions (dont worry, the oak leaves are #1 on that list) a piece for a show, repairing pieces to enter into chimera, finishing my first project, and beginning (and finishing) my second.
In between all this I have gotten a job, though seasonal, and I am pretty sure i will be relocating to downtown in the next few weeks as well. SOFA is coming up in the beginning of Nov, and I will be volunteering at the SNAG table, handing out papers and Metalsmith Magazines to all that come trotting by. I.Cannot.Freakin.Wait.
Went to my best friends opening last night. It was amazing to say the least. I seem to forget how incredibly talented some of my friends are, especially when all we do is joke about poop and farts most of the time. Im super lucky to have a whole studio full of the sweetest and most badass people in the whole world. I love my metals bunch <3 <3

This is the Flamboyant Cuttlefish. He is so cute <3
Art is weird sometimes. Since setting up my studio in the basement, Ive found that i much prefer working on my own in my own space. I have a difficult time handling the energy of the busy school studio, and am far less productive. Last night, as a warm-up for a weekend of home-studioing, i decided to attempt a gypsy setting of a little glass stone, just to play and try something new. Although it did not turn out as neatly as id have liked, it was my first time and i enjoyed the challenge.
During the semester, we have 3 projects that we must finish in the alotted time. I always bite off more than i can chew, and my projects keep getting bigger and more complex. I scramble at the end to finish, and i end up with something that is shoddily finished and breaks easily.
fuck that.
I dont want to do ‘projects,’ i want to make ‘pieces,’ and i fully intend of doing so.
Recently I began a train of thought that goes back to a time where if you needed a new doorknob, youd visit a craftsman. Mundane items as functional art. I like this.

Things like this get my wheeeeeeeeels a turnin. I dont want to just make items, but i want to attach an idea to them as well.
Currently i am finishing a Lamp that is covered in sharp spikes, inspired by the vampire squid (shutup.) The initial feeling i want people to get is ‘danger, no touchy touchy,’ but being that it is switched on by a touch sensor, you cannot utilize the lamp without risking a poke.

unfortunately, i do not have a finished photo of the rings, but hopefully i will have a good slide of them tomorrow. I am happy with the finished prodict, and maybe i will even make more of these rings in the future :)
I havent posted in a while, and for that i am ever so sorry.
